3D Room Color Plans
Turns your room color plans into tilted, 3D-looking presentation views
complete with their color legend, arranges them on sheets, and can build
solid room, area, space and zone volumes for massing studies — all as
native Revit views and elements.
How to use
Color plans
Open 3D Room Color Plans from Revit with your project open. It lists
the project's regular floor plans (view templates are left out) along
with the room color schemes and title blocks already in the project.
Under Source floor plan, tick the plans you want to process — one
plan or twenty, they are all processed in one go.
Under Output view, keep Duplicate source (recommended) to leave
your originals untouched, and choose whether the copy carries its
detailing. Set a prefix or suffix for the new view names — the default
adds " - 3D COLOR FILL". Transform original tilts the selected plan
itself instead; with several plans ticked, copies are always made.
Under Axonometric transform, pick a preset — Reference
axonometric, Steep presentation or Shallow presentation — or
set your own angles with the sliders: the two tilts, the in-view
rotation and the final crop rotation, facing right or left. Save the
angles you like as a named preset and make it your default.
Under Room color output, choose a room color scheme (or keep the
one the plan already uses) and decide whether to place the color fill
legend, show the crop boundary, and open the result when finished.
Click Generate pseudo-3D plan. Each result is still a floor plan,
so room colors, tags, dimensions and notes keep working on it, and the
legend lands in the top-left corner of the plan.
Sheet layout
Under Sheet Layout Designer, choose a title block and give the
sheet a number and name. If the number is already taken, a suffix is
added so nothing is overwritten.
Tick the views to place — your new color plans, existing plans, or 3D
views.
Drag the blue cards on the preview to position each viewport. Save the
arrangement under a name to reuse it later on any title block.
Click Create sheet to put every ticked view on one sheet, or One
sheet per view to give each view its own sheet at the same position.
Spatial massing
Under Spatial Massing Studio, filter by type (rooms, areas, MEP
spaces, MEP zones, system-zones), level, phase or name, and tick the
items to convert. Each row shows its area and, when Revit knows it, its
volume in cubic metres.
Choose how each volume is built. Calculated source volume uses the
real room or space volume Revit already computes, and zones combine the
volumes of their member spaces. Areas are extruded from their boundary
at the fixed height you set; system-zones without spaces are extruded
with a height worked out from volume ÷ area when both are known.
Pick the output category (Mass or Generic Model), one volume per
item or a single combined volume, and the color rule for the review
view — by type, level, department, or one uniform color.
Click Create spatial masses. Volumes are named after their source,
can carry its number, level, phase and department in their identity
fields, and open in a colored 3D review view. With Replace matching
generated volumes ticked, running again swaps out the volumes made
earlier for the same items, so you can re-run as the design changes.
Use Select sources, Show generated and Delete matching
generated to move between the spatial elements and the volumes made
from them.
One click
Under One-Click Automation, tick which steps to run — color plans,
presentation sheet, spatial masses — and name the workflow.
Click Run complete saved workflow. It generates the ticked plans,
places them on a sheet using your saved positions, and builds the
selected masses in one pass.
Use Export setup to save every setting, preset and sheet layout to
a file, and Import setup to load it on another computer.
Good to know
Everything the plugin makes is native Revit — duplicated floor plans,
color fill legends, sheets, viewports and solid volumes — and can be
undone from Revit's Undo menu. A plan run that fails part-way is rolled
back completely, leaving no half-made views behind.
Tilting a plan needs Crop View turned on, Project North, and no
scope box assigned to the plan. Remove the scope box first if your plan
uses one.
The tilt is applied by rotating the plan's crop boundary from views
that look along the right axis. The plugin uses elevations and sections
already in your project when they line up, and otherwise creates
temporary reference views and removes them again before it finishes.
Your presets, sheet layouts and the settings on every panel are
remembered on this computer and restored next time you open the plugin.
Calculated volumes need Revit's Areas and Volumes computation turned
on. Fixed height, top offset and side offset reshape a volume, so they
only work with the extrusion methods.
A Revit view can normally sit on only one sheet. Views that are already
placed are skipped, and the result message tells you which ones.
Generated view and element names are cleaned of characters Revit does
not allow, so a room named with unusual punctuation cannot stop the run.
The completion message reports how many volumes were created and their
total volume in cubic metres.
