Spot Coordinates and Elevations
Places spot coordinates and spot elevations on the corners, ends and insertion points of the elements you choose, in the view you are working in. You check every point in a preview before anything is placed, and the whole run is one undo step.
The tags it places are Revit's own spot coordinates and spot elevations, attached to real geometry, so they read, move and print exactly like tags you would place by hand.
When to use it
- Setting-out drawings: coordinates at every column corner, pile, footing or wall end on a plan.
- Level checks: elevations at the top corners of floors, roofs and beams in a section or a locked 3D view.
- Survey hand-over: a coordinate at the insertion point of every loaded family in a category.
- Any sheet where you would otherwise place dozens of spot tags one by one.
How to run it
Open a plan, section, elevation or orthographic 3D view, select the elements you want to tag (optional), then open Spot Coordinates and Elevations from BimCode's plugin list inside Revit. Nothing is placed until you click the red Place button and confirm.
The screens
1. Sources - which elements to tag. Keep the elements you selected in Revit, or switch to whole categories (tick them in the list) or a selection set saved in the project. Read Revit selection re-reads what is currently selected; Pick elements lets you pick in the model. You can also save the current sources as a new selection set for next time.
2. Points - where on each element. Start with a preset (column corners, beam and pipe ends, floor and roof top corners, family insertion points, or every corner), then refine the default point rule if you need to. Each category can carry its own rule. Choose whether the preview and CSV read out from the project base point, the survey point or the internal origin.
3. Tags - what gets placed. Pick the coordinate type and the elevation type from your project. More options folds away the leader lengths, the label gap when both tags share a point, custom text styles, and the elevation display and relative-level choices.
Preview on the right draws the elements' edges with a marker at every candidate point: blue can be tagged, orange has no exact reference, grey is unticked. Click a marker to find its row in Points to place, where you tick or untick individual points, keep only the ones that can be tagged, or export all of them to CSV. Report lists what happened after a run.
Place builds a fresh preview if you changed anything, asks you to confirm the project, view and count, then places the tags. Coordinates and elevations at the same point are two independent tags: either can fail on its own and the report tells you why.
Good to know
- Everything from one Place is a single Revit undo step, including any private tag type copies and the automatic lock of a 3D view.
- Rerunning on the same view skips points this plugin has already tagged, so you can add elements without doubling up. Turn that off in More options if you want duplicates.
- Dry run places the tags three times and rolls everything back, so you can read the report for a large batch before committing.
- Custom text styles never change the type you picked: a private copy is created at placement time and only new tags use it.
- Save the current setup for next session, or export it to share with a colleague. Type, level and selection-set choices belong to the project, so re-pick them after importing into another model.
Limits
- Revit must be able to reference the point. Interior family origins, mesh vertices, analytical ends and some clipped geometry have no exact reference and are reported instead of tagged.
- Works in plans, sections, elevations and locked orthographic 3D views. Perspective views, the family editor and linked models are not supported.
- CSV values are in feet, marked as such in the file; the preview shows project units.
- The preview is a wireframe, not a rendered or cropped view, and it does not check for overlapping tags.
- Existing tags placed by hand are never edited or restyled.
