Generative Building

Builds a complete parametric tower in Revit — massing, floors, core, structure and facade — from sliders, your own outlines or a site boundary, and keeps every tower editable afterwards.

How to use

  1. Open Generative Building from BimCode with your project open. The panel reads your levels and the floor, wall, curtain-system, column and framing types you have loaded, and shows a live 3D preview on the right.
  2. Under Customize Building, choose how the tower starts:
    • Plan Profile-Driven Shape — pick one of 28 plan shapes, or click Pick base profile(s) and select closed outlines in the model (model lines, floors, filled regions — several outlines give several buildings). Stack up to four profiles up the height, morphing or stepping between them.
    • Plan Elevation Profile-Driven Shape — cross a plan shape with a vertical profile (taper, setbacks, dome, hyperboloid, vase and more) for over a thousand solids, alone or as a cluster of up to fifty.
    • Primitive 3D Solid — place one of 109 exact solids (spheres, tori, domes, vaults, chamfered boxes, polyhedra, carved and hollow combinations) and dress it as a building.
    • Generative Massing Based On Site Outline — pick a site boundary, shape the floor plate with control points you drag on the plan, and let the study search for better options.
  3. Set the height by floor count or up to a level, then Sculpt it: twist and taper with easing curves, and choose the skin — Smooth (one continuous form), Stepped (a straight facade at every level) or Voxel (a grid of blocks that still lands as one mass). Add modifiers — bend, stretch, squeeze, skew, noise, wave or a free-form lattice — and watch the preview follow.
  4. Design the Facade: a curtain system, walls split by level, or a divided-surface pattern, with an optional generator on top — pixel voids, random cubes or vertical fins.
  5. Set the Core — a scaled profile, rectangle, circle or picked outline, built as a solid mass or as real shear walls, with optional offset rings for corridors — and the Structure: perimeter frame, framed tube, tube-in-tube, bundled tube, diagrid, hexgrid, braced tube, chevron, mega columns with belts, or outrigger, in your column and framing types.
  6. Tick what to build under Build and click Generate in Revit. Everything is created as a single undo step: the mass, levels, mass floors, floors with the core cut out, facade, structure and grids.
  7. Come back any time. In project lists every tower this tool has built: Edit restores its sliders, Update in Revit replaces it in place, the creation history brings back any earlier version, and Move and Delete act on the whole tower at once.

Good to know

  • Nothing touches Revit until you click Generate — the preview is where you design.
  • Any conceptual mass in the project, whoever made it, can be adopted from the In project tab: the tool reads its floor outlines and builds the floors, core, structure and facade around it.
  • The site study measures every option live — total building area, public realm, lift provision, coverage and plot ratio — plus the sunlight on each facade for your latitude and time of year, with neighbouring buildings you pick casting real shadows. Randomize generates hundreds of options; Optimize breeds them toward the goals you weight. Click a result to load it, then Generate.
  • The facade driver re-dresses a generated curtain facade: swap the panel type and drive one panel parameter by pattern — checkerboard, bonds, stripes, gradients, random, Voronoi or sun orientation. The pattern studio does the same for divided surfaces, mixing up to ten tile types on one face and driving tile parameters, including toward attractor elements you pick in the model.
  • Every element of a tower carries a hidden id and a readable tag in its Comments, and the mass stores the full recipe with its last ten versions — that is what makes Edit, Update and Restore work, on any machine.
  • Templates save an entire setup under a name, and can be exported and imported as files to share with colleagues.
  • If a pick did nothing, the outlines must be closed. If nothing shows after Generate, turn on Show Mass on Revit's Massing & Site tab. If no columns, braces or beams appeared, load a structural column family and a framing family first, then Generate again.
