Curves to Alignments

Turn a connected chain of Revit model lines into a real alignment — the kind Revit's own alignment station tags can reference — without leaving Revit or touching anything else in your model.

How to use

  1. In Revit, select the model lines that form one connected, open path — no branches, no gaps.
  2. Open Curves to Alignments from BimCode. It reads your current selection automatically; use the refresh button if you change the selection while the window is open.
  3. Choose how to build the alignment: directly in Revit (the default), or, when the window shows Civil 3D is available, routed through Civil 3D and back into Revit.
  4. Enter a name for the new alignment and its starting station.
  5. Turn on Create station labels if you want stations marked in the active view, then set how far apart major and minor labels should be (100 ft and 20 ft by default). Set the minor spacing to 0 for major labels only.
  6. Click Create alignment + tags.

Good to know

  • Works on one connected, open, unbranched chain of lines at a time. Disconnected or branching selections are rejected before anything is created.
  • Needs Revit 2025. Station labels specifically need Revit 2025.3 or newer.
  • Civil 3D is optional. The window shows whether it's available on this computer — you can leave it out entirely and everything still happens inside Revit.
  • Curved lines are converted into a series of short straight segments so the alignment closely follows the original geometry.
  • A successful run creates the alignment and, if you chose to, its station labels in the active view. Nothing else in the model is changed.
  • If any step fails partway through, nothing is left half-built — the alignment and its labels are undone together and your model stays exactly as it was.
  • Each run saves a record of what was created — the name, stations, and which method was used — so you can check back on it later.
