Photo Trace
Turn a photo, scan or sketch into real Revit linework you can build on. Drop
in a scanned plan, a hand sketch, or a photo of a drawing, and Photo Trace
turns it into clean lines, ready to draw straight into your project at the
right scale.
How to use
Open Photo Trace from BimCode.
Bring in an image — drag it into the window, paste it with Ctrl+V, or
click Browse for an image.
Choose how to trace it: Centerlines for plans, sketches and line
drawings; Outlines for solid shapes, logos and silhouettes; or
Photo edges for photographs.
Fine-tune the result if it needs it — clean up noise, smooth the lines,
or drop tiny scraps. The preview updates live as you adjust.
Enter the image's real-world width, in whatever unit you like, so the
linework comes in at the correct scale.
Choose where it goes — a new drafting view, the view you already have
open, or model lines on a level you pick.
Click Draw lines in Revit to place it, or Save as SVG… to export
the linework as a file instead.
Good to know
Works with PNG, JPG, WEBP, BMP and GIF images.
The lines can land two ways: as detail lines in a drafting view (a new
one, or the view you already have open), or as model lines placed on a
level you choose.
The width you set is what fixes the scale. Photo Trace starts with a
guess based on your project's units — check it before you draw, and
change it and draw again any time it's off.
Use the tabs above the preview to compare the photo against the traced
lines — overlaid, side by side with a sliding divider, or lines on
their own.
Prefer a file over a Revit drawing? Save as SVG… exports the same
linework without placing anything in your model.
Larger or more detailed images take a little longer to trace — the
preview shows progress while it works.
