Pro Purge
Finds the unused families, views, materials and other leftovers that weigh
your model down, and clears them safely with preview, typed confirmation,
and one-step undo.
How to use
Open Pro Purge from Revit with your project open.
On Loaded vs Placed, pick a scope — entire model, active view, a
sheet, or a level — and click Scan model. The scan takes stock of
everything in the project and changes nothing.
Browse the results. Loaded vs Placed compares the families loaded
in your project with the ones actually placed. Model Elements,
Annotations, Views, and All Elements list every item with
its usage, location and protection status, with search and filters, so
you can mark items to keep or delete one by one.
For a standard clean-up, open Deep Purge and choose one of six
levels — from a quick pass that removes only what Revit itself reports
unused, to a maximum pass that also reviews parameters and reference
planes. Adjust the pre-selected actions as you like.
Type the model's name to confirm — Pro Purge always asks before it
deletes anything — and run the cleanup.
Review the results: how many items were removed, and how many were
skipped because Revit still needs them. One click of Revit's Undo
restores the entire cleanup.
Scan again to see the difference — removing one unused item can reveal
others.
The six cleaning levels
1 Quick — only what Revit itself reports as unused.
2 Deep safe — adds unused materials, view templates and filters,
line and fill patterns, line styles, text and dimension styles, group
types, and empty worksets.
3 Spatial — adds unplaced or zero-area rooms, spaces and areas, and
unused design options.
4 Documentation — adds views, schedules and legends that are not
placed on any sheet.
5 External — adds imported CAD files, images and PDFs, point
clouds, coordination models, and link files that are no longer placed.
6 Maximum — adds cautious clean-up of unused parameters and family
lookup tables, plus a clearly marked high-risk option for reference
planes.
Good to know
Nothing is deleted blind. Every cleanup starts from a fresh scan of
the open model, and running it requires typing the model's name — so an
old preview or the wrong project can never be cleaned by accident.
Protected items stay protected. Your current view, applied view
templates, placed views and schedules, sheets, default worksets and
other items your project relies on are excluded automatically. Anything
Revit still needs is skipped and reported, never forced.
One undo. A full cleanup appears as a single entry in Revit's Undo
list, so you can reverse the whole run in one step.
Cleanup Review offers focused pages for view templates, view
filters, sheets and schedules, project and shared parameters, unplaced
rooms, spaces and areas, lookup tables and line patterns — each showing
exactly where an item is used before you remove it.
Overkill finds lines drawn on top of each other — detail lines,
model lines, and room, area or space separators — and removes the exact
duplicates while keeping one original (pinned lines are preferred). You
set the tolerance in millimetres; it never trims or merges lines that
only partly overlap.
Keep checked only prepares a lightweight copy by keeping just the
items you mark and removing the rest, while protecting anything your
kept items depend on. It changes the open model, so use Save As
first and run it on the copy.
Wipe is a separate set of clearly marked manual actions for
stripping a handover copy — families, views, sheets, groups, links and
more. It is never part of a Deep Purge level and asks for the same
typed confirmation.
Presets remember your scope and cleanup choices. Save them by name,
and export or import a settings file to share an office standard.
Work on a copy the first time. Purging changes your model; on a
first run, use a detached copy or a saved backup until you are
confident in your settings.
