Colorizer
Colorizer paints the active view by what things are — category, family, type, level, room, workset, phase, design option, or any parameter you choose — so a drawing explains itself at a glance instead of sitting there in one flat color. Choose how to group elements, pick a color set, and Colorizer applies it to the whole view in a couple of clicks. You can also give every element its own random color, fine-tune any single group by hand, and drop a matching legend onto a sheet.
How to use
Open the view you want to color, then launch Colorizer from the BimCode ribbon.
Under Color by, choose what decides the color — Category, Family, Type, Level, Room, Workset, Phase created, Design option, or "Each element" for a random color per element.
To color by a parameter instead, choose A parameter… and search for it by name in the list that appears.
Pick a Color set, or click Shuffle colors to try a different mix.
Pick a look under Template — Solid fill, Solid fill + edges, Edges only, or one you've saved — or open Manage templates to build and save your own.
Click any color swatch to recolor that one group by hand, or open its style editor to adjust its fill, transparency, or line weight on its own.
Click Color [n] elements to apply the colors to the view.
Click Place legend to add a matching legend — it lands under Drafting Views in the Project Browser, ready to drag onto any sheet.
Click Remove colors any time to clear everything Colorizer applied to the view.
Good to know
Coloring only changes how elements look in the current view — it's a view override, so the model itself is untouched and every other view stays as it was.
Remove colors clears every override Colorizer applied to the view in one step, so it's always safe to experiment.
A template controls the look — fill pattern, outline, transparency, halftone — while Color by and the color set decide which color goes where. Mix and match freely.
The built-in templates (Solid fill, Solid fill + edges, Edges only) are locked; duplicate one in Manage templates to create your own starting point.
A one-off edit to a single group's color or style sits apart from the template. Switching what you're coloring by, or reloading the view, clears those one-off edits.
"Each element" mode gives every element its own color and doesn't support a legend — pick a grouping like Category when you need one.
Shuffle hatches randomizes fill patterns and line weights per group, layered on top of whichever template is active.
If the model changes while Colorizer is open, click the refresh icon in the header to re-read the view.
The status strip at the bottom always shows your current Color by choice, color set, and template, so your setup is clear at a glance.
If a template has every setting switched off, Colorizer warns you that applying it won't change anything.
The dot in the footer shows whether Colorizer is connected to Revit; controls are disabled until it is.
Templates you save stay in Colorizer for next time. Use Export to save one to a file for another machine or a teammate, and Import to bring one in.
